Our Liverpool Dentist suggest a few easy things you can do to improve the health of your mouth.
Chances are you’re pretty confident about brushing your teeth – after all, you’ve been doing it twice a day for as long as you can remember. However, there are a few easy ways to improve the way you clean your teeth which can help to reduce your chances of tooth decay...
1. Spit, don’t rinse
Rinsing your mouth with water after you brush can remove all the protective ingredients contained in toothpaste, including fluoride which helps to prevent tooth decay.
2. Brush before breakfast, or at least 30 minutes after
Acids from food and drink can soften tooth enamel, and brushing this too soon after you eat can cause damage. Brushing before breakfast, or waiting at least 30 minutes after you eat gives your saliva a chance to neutralise any acids in your mouth.
3. Don’t forget your gum line
When you brush your teeth, try to tilt the tips of the bristles of your toothbrush to a 45 degree angle against your gum line. This helps to remove any debris that may have built up around your teeth. Keep your brushing gentle here, so as not to cause damage to your gum tissue.
